It's the kind of weather that produces avalanches and slides: heavy snowfall, followed by warm temperatures. The highway beyond our house has been closed on and off for a few days now. This is a tiny slide, just a twenty metres in length, not reaching the roadway, near our house.

When I saw the caption I thought of slides in the Scottish sense - long thin paths of ice, on the flat, that children make to slide on. It was the main winter playground fun when I was young - the concrete surface of the school playground lent itself to creating a very slippy path. You could get up quite a speed. They're probably banned in schools now...
Our driveway is one such long slide right now. It has chilled again, and the slow waterfall of slush that was our driveway is now a steep long slick skating rink. Erin and Noah were body-surfing down it today.
