Compost

Composting is a way of life here. The path to the compost pile at our place is long, deep and snowy. When the snow gets "over the boots" (i.e. more than knee deep) like this no one is keen on making the required deposits.

I know how tiresome this is but for us in Alabama... it's delightful! :)

Does your pile have a cover on it or do you keep having to dig it out?
I agree, the pine trees scene in LWW was really true to the illustrations. We've just missed Voyage of the Dawn Treader at the cinema...

Linda, neither. Snow happens, we dump the compostables on top. More snow happens, some melting, more compostables on top. In the spring the snow and accumulated organic matter gradually thaw from the bottom on up and everything gets to work decaying. Super low maintenance.

Oh, and Dawn Treader ... made a special trip to Castlegar for it and loved it, though the plot was changed a bit, adding a quest for swords to rid the dark island of evil. I thought it was actually a pretty cleverly wrought change. I don't think the open-ended journey of discovery would have played well to a movie audience, though I loved it in the book.
